Free Resource: Smarter Lunchrooms Movement

Some Cornell researchers have created a website to help schools improve nutrition in their lunchrooms, without spending much, or any, money. The Smarter Lunchrooms website has a number of free tools you can use to assess your lunchroom, as well as 60 ways to improve behaviors in the lunchroom, including making healthier food selections, and reducing food waste. Engaging students and staff in helping with the assessment and implementation of some of the strategies for improvement is also a great way to teach about nutrition, human behavior, and environmental awareness while building investment, pride, and relationships within the school and home community. You can review the scorecard here, but please register with the site, so you can receive full benefits. If there are opportunities to submit your data, please support the research that brought this to you!
